The Wheelchair Project: Empower the Poor Living with Disabilities
The Reason
In developing countries, disability is attached with much stigma and social and economic burdens. Millions of disabled people who need a wheelchair but lack one because of poverty are forced to crawl dragging themselves with their arms or must be carried around by others to move around. They are largely excluded from getting jobs, and society in general.
ATI aims to reach out to disabled people who are forced to live a quality of life far below any acceptable standards, and below their potential. A wheelchair could help save them from some of the difficulties and humiliation they face, and help them be more independent, perhaps even opening the doors for them to be able to earn a living.
To you and I, access to mobility may be something we take for granted. For the 300 people who each will receive a wheelchair with your generous donation, it is a burning desire and need that can help change their lives for better.
The Goal
ATI aims to donate 300 brand new wheelchairs to disabled people in six different countries - Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sudan and Gambia.
How YOU can make a difference
For £50, you can cover the cost of a new wheelchair that ATI will distribute to a disabled person in need.
